Training and Development
Empowering our Workforce

We are committed to cultivating industry pioneers through comprehensive training, support and assistance for our employees. The Company has established customized training programs for employees across different departments and different job levels, encouraging our people to continue learning, refreshing their skills and adapt to changing market needs.
We have established training programs for our KFC and Pizza Hut restaurant operations team members, as well as customized 2 - 3 year management trainee rapid development tracks for our marketing and supply chain teams. We provide our people with a diversified learning platform and a range of cutting edge educational resources to help them further develop the necessary skills to become industry-leading professionals.
We provide high-potential employees the opportunity to participate in several company projects, and encourages them to step out of their roles and take the initiative in their own development. We have also created a flexible restaurant vocational education system - 'Post-course Competition-Certificate', which enables our people to further hone their skills to meet changing job market demands. In addition, we provide continuing education opportunities for all employees, including those with special needs, through our 'YUMC College Program' and 'Angel College', including scholarships to qualified employees to help their career development.

The Company has created the industry-leading talent development project 'Bench Planning', which has developed many excellent industry leaders. Our systematic and transparent career planning program provides a clear path for restaurant operation teams. We value the tradition of promoting from within. 100% of our market managers are home grown and promoted within our organization. This tradition serves us well and supports our positioning in setting up a sustainable workforce, ensuring that we have high-caliber talents at all levels. In addition, we have established a People Planning Process (PPP) for performance management, which aims to provide fair evaluations and clear performance feedback, guiding employees to continuously sharpen themselves and meet challenges.

'People First' Highlights
Angel Restaurants

Yum China launched its first 'Angel Restaurant' in Shenzhen in 2012 with the aim to provide gainful employment opportunities for people with disabilities nationwide. By the end of 2023, we have operated 46 'Angel Restaurants' in 42 cities across the country, supporting 200+ 'Angel Employees' every year. In total, Yum China has supported the employment of 1,800 disabled individuals. With modified equipment and customized training, our 'Angel' employees can perform a full range of job roles. By learning new skills, they are able to better integrate themselves into society and achieve self-actualization.

RGM No.1

Yum China is a strong believer that our Restaurant General Managers (RGMs) are our most important leaders. RGMs are instrumental in driving business growth and customer satisfaction. As such, we are firmly committed to invest in our RGMs' career development to become experts in operations and customer service to drive our business forward. We have implemented a systematic training roadmap to provide a career progression path for managers. In addition, we offer stock ownership programs to all qualified RGMs.

YUMC Care

Yum China consistently prioritizes the health and safety of its employees. Our comprehensive "YUMC Care" welfare program, which focuses on personal, family, social and financial well-being, is one of the most comprehensive in the industry. For example, restaurant general managers receive RMB 1 million in medical insurance coverage, as well as access to a family care program and housing subsidies. Our "Restaurant Mutual Care Fund" provides major illness protection for service team leaders. In addition, the company has established an Employee Mutual Aid Fund to offer financial assistance to employees in the event of emergencies, critical illness and financial difficulties.

YUMC College Program

Yum China encourages our employees to pursue higher education and continuing education to support their career goals. Our YUMC College Program in cooperation with the Open University of China covered 20 markets nationwide as of 2023, assisting nearly 5,000 employees to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate degrees as well as professional certifications and credentials.
